England advanced to the quarter-finals of the European Championship with a 2-0 win over Germany at Wembley on Tuesday. Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane scored second-half goals.

When Luke Shaw squared the ball from the left wing to find Sterling, who had initiated the play and finished it with a tap-in from the edge of the six-yard box as the home fans exploded, England seized the lead.

In the 86th minute, Kane scored his second goal after replacement Jack Grealish crossed the ball and the England captain raced in to beat Manuel Neuer and tap home.

Earlier, England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford did brilliantly to deny Timo Werner before tipping over Kai Havertz’s stinging effort. Mats Hummels denied Kane with a last-ditch clearing shortly before halftime on the other end.

In the final last-16 encounter, England will face either Sweden or Ukraine, who will clash later on Tuesday in Glasgow.
