Google unveils Pixel 5A 5G. When the Pixel 4A was released last year, it was at the top of the mid-range spec list, with a 7nm Snapdragon 765G engine, 12.2MP main camera, 16MP ultra-wide camera, and 6GB of RAM. Although the specifications remain the same in the 5A, there are a few major tweaks that make the phone more polished and appealing than the previous edition.

What’s new about the Pixel 5A is the screen, which is 6.34″ instead of 6.2″ and runs at 60Hz, as well as a new metal unibody design that gives the phone an IP67 dust and waterproof protection, something the previous model lacked.

The 5A also boasts a larger 4680 mAh battery, up from 3885 mAh on the 4A 5G, and a new Corning Gorilla Glass 6, which is a major upgrade from the previous Gorilla Glass 3.

On paper, the update appears to be quite uninteresting; many people had hoped for new custom silicon from Google this year, but you’ll have to wait for the Pixel 6. However, the 5A features critical modifications, such as Google polishing an already existent canvas for this year and making the phone $50 cheaper. There are lots of phones available for $449, but Google’s stock Android experience and assured rapid upgrades put the 5A in a class by itself.
