After violating COVID guidelines with an affair, UK health minister resigns
Matt Hancock, the UK’s health minister, has resigned after admitting to breaking COVID-19 guidelines by hugging and embracing an aide in his office during a lockdown, angering colleagues and the public.
On Saturday, Downing Street revealed Hancock’s resignation letter to Boris Johnson, as well as the prime minister’s answer, in which he expressed regret for receiving it.
“As a country, we have worked so hard to combat the pandemic,” Hancock wrote in the letter. “The last thing I want is for my personal life to divert attention away from the singular focus that will bring us out of this catastrophe.”
