According to the Transparency Report issued by Meta for the first half of 2022 (January to June), Facebook has been requested information on 1,171 users this year by the government of Bangladesh.
The government requested 659 different pieces of data from Facebook during a six-month period, according to the Meta, the parent company of Facebook, in its half-yearly transparency report.
610 of these were made in response to legal process, while 49 of these were “emergency disclosures.” Facebook complied with the government’s request for information regarding 66.01% of the accounts.
The study claims that when Facebook responds to demands for data from the authorities, it does so in accordance with the law and its terms of service.
According to the study, Facebook carefully reviews every request it gets to ensure that it is legally valid, and the company may reject or seek further specifics on requests that appear to be overly general or ambiguous.
According to the Transparency report, Bangladesh has requested more information from Facebook this year than in previous years. The government issued 525 requests between July 2021 and December 2021. In response, Facebook provided 66.86% of the data to the law enforcement.
The study also addressed the rise in global government inquiries about Facebook users from other countries.
Between January and June of this year, Facebook received a total of 237,414 requests for data about 412,285 users from various countries. Facebook complied with 76.10% of these requests globally.
