Germany police arrest a British ambassador suspected of Russian spying
The individual is suspected of transferring documents to Russian intelligence in exchange for money, according to German investigators.
According to authorities, a British national who worked at the British embassy in Berlin was arrested on suspicion of transferring papers to the Russian intelligence service in exchange for payment.
The man’s apartment and business had been searched, according to German prosecutors, and he will be taken before an investigative magistrate later on Wednesday.
The suspect, identified only as David S in the statement, “on at least one occasion passed on documents he collected as part of his professional operations to a representative of Russian intelligence,” according to the statement.
“In exchange, the accused received a monetary payment in an undisclosed amount,” it stated.
A coordinated investigation by German and British police led to the arrest.
