TikTok announced on Thursday that a shortform video app will provide an option to allow users to produce more videos for up to three minutes on its platform.

TikTok has grown quite popular with young people in recent years, allowing users to make short mobile-friendly films that can run up to 60 seconds and include special effects as well as soundtracks drawn from a music library.

“We will open the possibility for creating long videos with TikTok for anybody over the coming weeks, providing our worldwide community with the flexibility to directly film, publish and edit videos within TikTok for up to three minutes,” the social media business said in a blog post.

The results of TikTok, a Chinese company owned ByteDance, have led a number of social media companies to include short video services on their platforms, with the Instagram launch of Facebook Inc, known as reels, short video video clips and Snap Inc’s Snapchat launched last November’s ‘Spotlight.’
